Dr. Michael Papademetriou was born and raised on the island of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean. After High school and completing his Army service he came to the US to study, stayed for 13 years, and then returned to Cyprus to practice orthodontics for 21 years. Dr. Papademetriou was one of the first orthodontic specialists in Cyprus, where he formed the Cyprus Orthodontic Society and signed the WFO (World Federation of Orthodontists) charter for Cyprus. He was also involved with the European Orthodontic Society.
In 2011, Dr. Papademetriou was offered a position at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health in Mesa, AZ. and moved back to Arizona with his wife Dr. Cathey Smith and their three children. Dr Papademetriou is an Assistant Professor and the Clinical Director of the Postgraduate Orthodontic Program at the Arizona School of Dentistry. He really enjoys teaching the young dentists (Orthodontic Residents) to become excellent orthodontists. He has special interest and extensive experience in Wilckodontics® (Accelerated Orthodontic treatments), TADs (temporary anchorage devices) and Orthognathic surgery.
Dr. Papademetriou received his BA degree in Physiology/Anatomy from Southern Illinois University. He then attended Washington University School of Dental Medicine where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. He graduated at the top of his class with multiple awards and recognitions. He was also invited to join the Honarary Dental Society, OKU. After graduation, Dr. Papademetriou was offered a position at his Dental School as a clinical instructor in fixed prosthodontics.
The following year he was accepted at the University of California in Los Angeles, UCLA Postgraduate Orthodontic Program where he received his orthodontic specialization.
Outside the Office
Dr. Papademetriou currently resides in Central Phoenix with his wife Dr. Catherine Smith. They have three children, Michelle, Stephany, and Christopher, but his favorite “child” is their Bolognese dog Chippy. His hobbies include gardening, the outdoors, traveling, hunting and spending time with the family.
